Poster Analysis

From analyising these posters I can see what to and what not to put on my poster.

I can see the types of styles already out there which then gives me the opportunity to find something more new and unique to add to my poster. I know that it must feature my artist as the main focus and not the song. We would want the poster to suit the genre of our target audience therefore we would include pink/purple girly colours, have Jenna dressed in girly clothes that teenage girls would want to dress in and include those photos on the poster. We don't want Jenna to look seductive as our target audience is teenage girls who are young and don't want to see their idol dressed in seductive clothing.

Main Cast

Our Main Cast

This is Jenna Harvey we chose her to be our main performer. she's 17, and she studies: media, dance and English language at A-Level. We thought she would be perfect as our main performer as she fits the stereotypical blonde pop artist. She is also very familiar with the lyrics to our song.
Jenna has showed a very positive attitude towards our project and also has a very outgoing personality to fit our artists profile.









This is Sam Murfitt, he plays the boyfriend role in our music video.
Sam is 18, and he studies Physics, Biology, Psychology and Business at A-Level,
Sam is also very outgoing and confident. His fashion sense relates back to a number of boys which feature in the pop music genre. Sam and Jenna are also very confident playing out the love role together and make a good match. Sam is really easy to work with and will try anything we ask.

Planning for Digipak

Planning of Digipak

I made this powerpoint showing the planning stages of a Digipak, I looked at previous examples (Britney Spears etc) and noticed how her digipak was similar to how we wanted ours to look. I also included some digipak templates, to which I added in photos and ideas that could be included into our own digipak. I then added in the types of images and shot types from the photo shoot that we would want to include and patterns that would be a suitable background.

I made a rough prototype of a Digipak where I could phsyically make it out of paper and see where everything would go if you were to fold it up. This was helpful as it allowed me to see how the Digipak would look if it were a physical one.

Rough Draft 1

This is our first draft of our music video, we started filming some shots early so we could see what worked well and what didn't. We used a Pentax SLR camera as it was the highest quality camera to use and it produced professional looking shots. These shots were all filmed in school (science classroom and school corridor) and will be placed at the beginning of the video as it suits the lyrics "the day I first met you, you told me you'd never fall in love'' - they could have first met in a science class together and the romance began from there.
We will continue to use this camera as it was very successful and the types of shots it produced were effective. The position of Jenna and Sam is effective as the camera is tilted towards Jenna as she is the one singing and Sam is further away as he's ignoring her. I think the background is a bit distracting as it's covered in posters and tables/screens which could be distracting - we will think a lot more about the background when we next film and to have a plain background so Jenna and Sam stand out more. I did like the lighting and how we positioned them so the sun is shining on their faces. The performace shots from Jenna were also successful - the lighting complimented her and I liked the shot type (mid shot) however again we would have to think more about the background as we can see objects from outside that are distracting.

Pitch for your ideas

For this task we presented our initial ideas to our class members to gain feedback and to see if they would want to watch this type of music video and would enjoy it. We received very positive feedback on our ideas and intend to pursue the ones that had the best feedback as that is what our target audience want to see. This was beneficial as we got to receive constructive criticism from our target audience as well as positive feedback, from this we now know what ideas we will and will not be including in our final project.
This also allowed us to gain a perspective of presenting our work to an audience, as everything else is group work it's interesting to get an audience's feedback of what they like and don't like.

Health and safety evidence

This is our health and safety evidence sheet, it shows all the hazards that are possible in the locations we are shooting in, it has been set up to warn us of our safety when on set.
I have wrote in the potential hazards which could occur when filming and what we can do to control this measure.
When we are at the location we will have a printed copy of this so we know what to look out for.
I feel this is a good idea as it gives evidence we have thought about our safety.
I have also placed estimates of how serious the hazard could be and what the consequences could be.
To Help as well I have wrote in some control measures to prevent these hazards from being and issue.

Website planning

This plan of our website has helped us learn what all the important aspects of a website are and what can be helpful to the public viewing it. We want the colour scheme of this website to suit the theme of our target audience (teenage girls). To make the website look modern looking and professional, it would be important to include images of Jenna from a photoshoot then we instantly know who the singer/artist is when we click on that website.

Structure of your music video - a timeline

This is a detailed structured timeline of our music video. Most of it consists of when the performance shots will come in and how long they will last for followed by the narrative shots and what will happen in those shots. I found it useful to create this as it allowed me to have a good image in my mind of the whole music video and what's going to happen at what point. As you can probably tell, the beginning of the video starts of quite slow paced, with 10 or so seconds between each shot, then as we gradually reach the end, shot to shot gets faster and we see more of a narrative, it all happens quite quickly. These ideas may change through the process of editing and filming, however this is just a rough idea of what our video will include and at what point.

Editing software

This is a screenshot of Adobe Premiere Pro, we use this editing software when uploading footage and editing our video. It's simple to use and can be really effective if you know all the little tricks and effects to add on top of your video. This screenshot shows our first footage being uploaded and us then working back into it, adding in a track of the song we're doing and then connecting it to our footage by matching up the lip synching. We will continue to use this software as it supports our video and will make an effective final project.

These are images of Ben and myself while we were working on Adobe Premiere Pro editing software, we are both familiar with how to work the programme and therefore will produce a successful music video as we continue to produce it.

Analysis of song lyrics

These images show the analysis of the lyrics to the song we have chosen. I have key coded the annotation, black writing shows the analysis of the lyrics also how it can relate to Andrew Goodwin's theory. Blue writing shows where we can fit in clips of the video at this point of the song. I feel it's good to add in some theory as using Andrew Goodwin throughout the lyrics will make the video look more effective and structured. We would also want to include Carol Vernallis' theory of altering editing/body movements in time to the beat of the music.

Storyboards

This is the draft of our storyboard, we thought it might be easier to make it online however once we did this - we realised it wasn't as easy as we thought and we didn't have a variety of outfits/locations/shot types etc so we decided that it would infact be easier to make it physically on post-it notes and take a photo of it.

This is the final piece of our storyboard, the drawings aren't very detailed however we can recognise what is happening in each square. This was helpful to make as it made me think about shot types, camera angles etc and how we can use them in different ways while filming. I have included different outfits when drawing the performance shots as we want Jenna to have a variety of costumes throughout these scenes.

There are a lot of squares/shot types - this is because as part of a music video, we want to see lots of narrative and change of performance shots, therefore the video wouldn't be one continuous clip of a narrative or live performace, it's more effective when the video is chopped up into loads of different parts that will keep the viewers occupied.

Filming/editing schedule

This is our editing/filming schedule colour coded by each day and which periods they will take place. This schedule makes the editing/filming process easier to understand as we can stick to this time keeping, making an organised plan for everyone involved (group members and performers). We would like to keep to this schedule as much as we can to ensure everything gets done properly and in an organised fashion.
There are more boxes labelled for editing as we find this is the most time consuming, making sure the lip-synching is correct, adding in each clip and overall making the video look professional. I have made this schedule allowing time for performers to carry on with their work so that filming doesn't take all lesson and therefore stop people from doing their own editing/filming. Therefore I have only provided a double period for filming which then allows time for other people to carry on their own work while our group edits our own footage. We will we stick to this schedule, may that be only one person one day edits the footage, all this work doesn't need every group member at each time - however it would be useful to get other group members' feedback about the progress.

Dear Hollywood Records

This is our letter to Hollywood Records asking consent of usage of their artists' song (Demi Lovato - Give your heart a break). We used formal standard english within the letter as we are sending this to high authority and need to be professional in the language we use towards them. I added in the school logo and contact information (placed at top and bottom of the page) to make the letter look professional and more realistic.

Props list

Our props list is critical as the props we want to include help make the storyline stronger. When filming a couple's relationship, props are really useful when we want to convey their emotions/closeness to the audience.

• Flowers and candles are a big sign of a romantic relationship and using these in the flashback scenes will be really effective to portray the symbols of their love.
• We want to include a home video camera so it looks like the couple are filming themselves in a home video effect, making the music video look personalised.
• Using photographs of the couple when they were together helps convey the change in time when Jenna is singing she is reminiscing on the photos from the past.
• Baking ingredients are a key prop of the music video as we want to create a scene where the couple are baking together and they're making a big mess but they don't care, having the couple bake together will convey their closeness as a couple - these shots will be included in the flashbacks.
• Prom outfits could be used, at some point of the flashbacks, the couple could have gone to prom together and that shows a symbol of their relationship and showing this off.

EQUIPMENT
The Camera we will be using this PENTAX DSLR camera when filming for our music video. We chose this camera as it is very high quality and produces professional footage which will make our music video look professional. It is light and compact so it will be easy carrying around when travelling to different locations.
The final reason we chose this camera for our music video is due to its high capacity battery features extended battery life, this is ideal as when we are out on the go filming we don't want the battery life to die as it would be very inconvenient. 




The tripod will come in very useful and will be needed at nearly all times for filming. It will allow our footage to be completely stable which it critical when filming as we don't want to see a handheld, shakey frame. It allows self recording when everyone would ned to be in it (would be very rare). It also features two leg extentsions alloqing us to suit the height of the tri pod corrrectly to match our shot. We would definitely need this piece of equipment while filming.

1. School halls/corridors -  This is the place where Jenna will have her performance shots, we chose this spot as it's quite open and the windows behind her make the room look modern, plus if it's a sunny day the sun will shine through creating a 'daydream' tone, complimenting the frame. The bottom left image is of the school corridor where all the lockers are, this location will be used when Sam and Jenna are walking down together, Jenna will be singing and Sam will be ignoring her - as if she's a ghost and she's gone into the past singing to him trying to get herself noticed.
2. Sports hall - In this scene Sam will be playing basketball as Jenna is singing to him but he's not listening, this location especially shows off the whole 'high school' theme that we are trying to portray.
3. Kitchen - We have chosen the kitchen to be a location as it could be seen quite romantic. For example there could be a couple baking cakes and being flirtatious with each other.
   Stairs - We thought we could use this setting as a flash back of maybe the couples prom and have the female walking down the stairs to her boyfriend in her dress.
   sports hall - we though this could be a stereotypical shot of the female with her sporty boyfriend, we followed the theory of having an American school girl with her jock boy friend.
4. Class room - This could be an interesting place to film as it is where a teenage person will spend the majority of their time at school and our viewers could relate to it.
   studio back ground - this is going to be a neutral place which will cut up our narrative scenes and help our video flow together.
